Cycling for Sisterhood: Over £5,000 Raised to Support Muslim Women’s Group Rides

Muslim women cyclists

Over 60 women from Cycle Sisters embarked on the Tour de Cycle Sisters 2024 ride, an unforgettable (almost) 60-mile journey from London to the beautiful Cambridge Central Mosque. More than just a physical challenge - this women-only cycling event was a celebration of sisterhood!

The women, in their matching Tour de Cycle Sisters kit, met up at the Lighthouse & Gardens in Stratford, where they were greeted by our supportive team and treated to croissants, last-minute bike checks, and some crucial words of encouragement!

For most of the women, this was the longest ride they had ever completed and the challenge pushed them beyond what many believed they were capable of. As one cyclist put it: "I had never ridden more than a few miles before joining Cycle Sisters. To complete almost 60 miles today has given me confidence I never thought I could have!"

The Tour de Cycle Sisters proved that when women support one another, they can achieve milestones they once thought impossible. As one participant reflected: "As a woman of colour, riding with my sisters today felt empowering. Together, we are stronger, and we’re proving that we can overcome any barriers."

From women who had never ridden before joining Cycle Sisters, to those pushing their physical limits, everyone left with a profound sense of achievement.

A Double Triumph: Reaching Our Fundraising Goal!

But the success didn’t stop there. These incredible women didn’t just conquer the ride—they smashed the fundraising target too! Together, we surpassed the target goal, raising an amazing £5,605 that will go toward supporting even more women in taking up cycling, making our community stronger and more active.

Celebrating Our Top Fundraisers

A special shoutout to our top three fundraisers, whose incredible efforts truly stood out:

At the close of counting on Sunday, October 20, 11:59 pm, the totals were:

  1. Salema Gulbahar – £820

  2. Rabiyah Piperdi – £811

  3. Shaveena Bashir – £312

Your contributions have made a significant impact, and we are so proud of your hard work and dedication! As top fundraiser, Salema will be awarded the Hammerhead Cycle Commuter. We'll also be recognising Rabiyah with a prize, given how close she was to taking the top spot.

Special Thanks to Our Supporters

We couldn’t have done it without our amazing supporters. A huge thank you to Hadley Property Group and Tower Hamlets GP Care Group CIC , whose sponsorship made this event possible. We also want to extend heartfelt thanks to Cambridge Central Mosque for welcoming us with open arms, Tom from More-Than-Right Bicycles for keeping our bikes in top shape, Team MC for logistical support and all the incredible volunteers who worked tirelessly behind the scenes.

To all the women who rode, volunteered, donated, or cheered us on, thank you. You are what makes Cycle Sisters so special. Alhamdulillah (thank God), we’re already looking forward to the next challenge.
